Public Speaking

Many people I know HATE public speaking! It’s a common fear for lots of folks. I personally never thought of myself as a good public speaker but as I grew as a professional I realized that many leaders that I aspired to be like were often great public speakers. I knew that if I wanted to become proficient at public speaking that I’d have to be intentional about growing this skill.

I was introduced to a public speaking coach and it was not pretty. I got a BIG dose of radical candor complete with video evidence of fixes I needed to incorporate in order to take my public speaking to the next level. After that feedback I was able to overcome my fears and work hard at becoming a better speaker.

Fast forward to 2018. I found myself on the stage in front of 400+ people at a client conference. Sure my mouth was dry and I was scared out of my mind, but I was able to successfully speak to this crowd and deliver my message without passing out! After I spoke, several leaders and professionals sought me out and personally congratulated me on delivering an effective presentation.

I’m not a perfect public speaker, but I’m being intentional about putting myself out there and presenting every chance I get, even if it’s over Zoom nowadays!
